View original imageThis project, supported by the Korea Publication and Culture Industry Promotion Agency and organized by the Korea Federation of Bookstore Associations, is designed to have local bookstores plan and operate reading culture activities tailored to different life stages, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. The initiative aims to promote reading culture activities for the entire population.
The project is open to 200 local bookstores that operate offline stores. Large bookstores and chain bookstores are excluded. Selected bookstores will choose at least two life stages and develop programs, which will be operated from May to October.
The selected bookstores will receive up to 5.5 million won in operating expenses for cultural activities and 500,000 won as activity expenses for bookstore owners. If a bookstore forms a partnership with local institutions or small business owners to run an "expanded" program, an additional 500,000 won will be provided. Of the total support fund, 4 million won will be paid in advance to reduce the initial financial burden on bookstores.
A representative from the Korea Publication and Culture Industry Promotion Agency stated, "Local bookstores are precious cultural spaces. We will work closely with the Korea Federation of Bookstore Associations to help local bookstores serve as reading hubs for all life stages and to enhance the sustainability of bookstore operations."
