Kim Seungsoo, President of the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency, has begun a series of outreach efforts with major publishing associations immediately following his appointment. By meeting with industry leaders, he aims to share the pressing issues facing the publishing industry, which is struggling due to declining reading rates and changes in the media environment, and to lay the groundwork for cooperation to globalize K-books and strengthen industrial competitiveness.

View original imageAccording to the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency on April 17, President Kim visited the Korean Publishing Culture Association and the Korea Publishers Association on April 16, holding separate meetings with Chairman Kim Taehun of the Korean Publishing Culture Association and Chairman Hong Youngwan of the Korea Publishers Association.
During these meetings, both sides assessed the crisis facing the publishing ecosystem, including the decline in the reading population and changes in the media landscape, and discussed possible responses. There was consensus that publishing is a core industry supporting the knowledge competitiveness rooted in the humanities. They agreed to strengthen their cooperation to restore the publishing ecosystem and rebuild trust in the industry.
President Kim stated, "The Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency will be the first to listen to voices from the field and will play a strong role in tackling difficult challenges. By closely working with publishing organizations, we will turn this crisis into an opportunity and create a sustainable ecosystem."
