President Lee to Hold Summit with Polish Prime Minister on the 13th: "Discussions to Include Middle East Situation"
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Make Official Visit to Korea on April 12-13
First Bilateral Visit by a Polish Prime Minister in 27 Years
The Blue House announced on April 10 that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will make an official visit to Korea from April 12 to 13 at the invitation of President Lee Jaemyung. This marks the first bilateral visit by a Polish prime minister in 27 years, and it is Prime Minister Tusk’s first bilateral visit to a non-European country since taking office.
Kang Yujeong, Chief Spokesperson for the Blue House, stated in a written briefing that the two leaders will hold a summit, make a joint press announcement, and attend an official luncheon on the morning of April 13. Through the summit, the two leaders plan to hold extensive discussions on ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries across various fields.
Kang further explained, “As Poland is a key member of both the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the two leaders are expected to engage in in-depth discussions on major global issues and responses to shifting international dynamics, including the recent situation in the Middle East.”
Poland is ranked among the world’s top 20 economies and is a major economic power in Central Europe, serving as a key gateway to the European market. With its strategic location connecting Western and Eastern Europe and its outstanding investment environment, Poland has emerged as a major production hub within Europe and is gaining attention as a strategic base for future industries such as advanced technology.
In particular, amid rising geopolitical uncertainties, Korea and Poland have continued to bolster mutually beneficial defense industry cooperation, culminating in a large-scale comprehensive defense contract signed between the two countries in 2022.
Additionally, over 400 Korean companies producing electric vehicle batteries, components, and materials have entered the Polish market, while exchanges between the peoples of both countries are active, with annual reciprocal visits reaching 100,000 people.
