This agreement marks the first step toward expanding its business into Central Asia, leveraging the experience it has accumulated in Southeast Asian markets such as Thailand and Indonesia.
Through this agreement, the two companies will pursue comprehensive cooperation, including a strategic equity investment in MCS Group’s digital bank ‘M Bank,’ joint development and advancement of credit scoring and alternative credit evaluation models, consulting on products, services, and UX/UI, and a joint expansion into Central Asia. ‘M Bank’ is Mongolia’s only digital bank, established by MCS Group in 2022. KakaoBank has supplied over 15 trillion won in loans to mid- to low-credit and thin-file customers with limited financial history, utilizing its proprietary credit evaluation model, the ‘KakaoBank Score.’ Through this agreement, the company plans to transfer its technology and risk management expertise to the Mongolian market.
Mongolia is regarded as a market with significant digital financial growth potential, given its high internet penetration rate and ongoing government-led expansion of financial infrastructure. However, with an average age of just 31.5, a large proportion of the population lacks sufficient financial history, resulting in rising demand for alternative credit-based financial services.
