Export Support Hub for Korean SMEs to Be Established in the Southeastern United States
First Introduction of Private Sector-Led Export Hub 'Global Basecamp'
Recruitment of Executing Agencies for Forward Base in Southeastern United States
The government will establish export hubs for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the southeastern United States using a private consignment model. This initiative aims to effectively support Korean SMEs in expanding overseas.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency announced on April 9 that they are recruiting executing agencies to operate a 'Global Basecamp' in the southeastern United States, designed to help SMEs seeking to enter overseas markets establish a stable local presence.
Introduced for the first time this year, 'Global Basecamp' is a program that leverages private sector cooperation systems, infrastructure, and resources to help SMEs successfully settle in local markets. The key focus is to establish these hubs in areas where there is no existing government-led SME export base, such as the Global Business Center, and to entrust operations to the private sector to enhance the efficiency and diversity of support.
This Global Basecamp will be established in the southeastern United States, where Korean SME expansion is active and the Korean-American network is strong. Institutions with a local presence and the ability to collaborate with relevant organizations and economic groups will be selected for pilot operation.
The selected executing agencies will recruit SMEs wishing to enter the local market, operate permanent exhibition halls to identify buyers and facilitate matching with SMEs, and provide comprehensive support. They will closely manage the entire contract process, including verification and review at each stage, and offer business mentoring and consulting by leveraging local networks. For more details, refer to the 'Global Basecamp Private Consignment Agency Recruitment Announcement' posted on the websites of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency. SMEs wishing to enter the southeastern United States will be recruited separately through a notice in May.
