On April 7, the campaign committee issued a statement expressing strong displeasure, saying, "The 'government intervention and illegal election' claims raised by Lee Jae-tae's camp are false and not based on fact, and represent a political operation built on maliciously edited videos."
Regarding the controversial remarks, the campaign committee specifically refuted, "Claims such as gathering elderly residents to induce them to support a particular candidate do not appear anywhere in the video, and no such remarks were ever made."
About the village head reported by Lee Jae-tae's camp, the committee also stated, "He was investigated by the Naju Election Commission, but as no violations were identified, the case was closed without being referred to investigative authorities."
Nevertheless, regarding Lee Jae-tae's camp proceeding with a police complaint based on the edited video, Yoon Byungtae's side stated, "This constitutes organized manipulation of public opinion, not a genuine effort to establish the facts."
The campaign committee also continued its criticism concerning some media coverage.
Targeting the Korean Press Association, the committee asserted, "By reporting unverified videos and one-sided claims without fact-checking, they participated in the spread of false information," adding, "This is a distorted report that abandons the fundamental duties of the press."
The committee also made clear its intention to take legal action, viewing this incident as a serious matter with potential violations of the Public Official Election Act.
The campaign committee stated, "We will hold all those responsible fully accountable for the dissemination of false information, illegal filming, video manipulation, and distorted reporting."
Furthermore, the committee urged investigative authorities to "conduct a thorough investigation into whether the video was edited or distorted, including the disclosure of the original footage and the circumstances surrounding any illegal filming, and to strictly punish those involved."
Yoon Byungtae's camp demanded that Lee Jae-tae, his campaign committee, and all involved parties "immediately apologize to the citizens of Naju," and also called on the Korean Press Association to issue a correction.
