KOCCA Supports Production of Broadcast Video Content Linked to Global OTT Platforms
Support for Seven Titles Worth 6.8 Billion Won
Participation from Viu, Rakuten Viki, and DramaBox
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on April 6 that they are seeking companies to participate in the "Global OTT Platform-Linked Production Support" program.
This year, in collaboration with platforms such as Viu, Rakuten Viki, and DramaBox, they will select approximately seven titles with a total support fund of 6.8 billion won. The number of platforms has been expanded from two last year to three, and the eligible genres now include short-form content in addition to the previously supported drama and non-drama categories.
Viu, an OTT platform based in Southeast Asia, will provide support for about two titles—one drama and one non-drama—with a total budget of 2.5 billion won. Rakuten Viki, which offers its services in over 200 countries worldwide, will focus on full-length dramas and invest up to 2 billion won per project for approximately two titles. DramaBox, a leading platform in the short-form market, will support around three titles, providing up to 100 million won per project.

A key feature of this program is that global OTT platforms will participate from the project selection stage and jointly promote investment and broadcasting. Domestic production companies can secure intellectual property (IP) jointly with the platforms, thereby establishing a foundation for mid- to long-term revenue generation.
