Gyeonggi Province Strengthens Human Rights Protection... Adds Five New Areas Including Victims of State Violence
Gyeonggi Province is expanding its scope of human rights protection.
On April 6, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it will expand the number of human rights protection areas from the previous 12 to a total of 17 by adding five new areas—victims of state violence, healthcare, digital, culture, and residence—through its annual 'Human Rights Implementation Plan.'
In line with this, Gyeonggi Province will hold a memorial cultural festival and operate a victim support center to assist survivors of the Seongam Academy incident under the area of victims of state violence. In the healthcare sector, the province will run a home-visit care medical center program to alleviate the caregiving burden on family members. For the cultural sector, it will operate the 'Culture Nuri Card' project to support underprivileged groups who face economic hardship and have limited access to cultural experiences. In the digital sector, the province will supply assistive ICT devices tailored to the needs of people with disabilities and other information-vulnerable groups, and promote a counseling and support program to prevent smartphone overdependence.
In particular, to prevent gender-based violence, Gyeonggi Province will establish a collaborative system among relevant organizations and provide sexual rights education for children and adolescents with disabilities.
The provincial government plans to thoroughly verify the effectiveness of the implementation plan by conducting interim reviews and final evaluations of all 119 projects at each stage, ensuring that the plan brings tangible changes to residents' lives.
