Haeundae Bumin Hospital Performs First Robotic Hip Surgery Using Domestic "Cuvic-Joint HIP"
Haeundae Bumin Hospital has successfully performed a total hip replacement surgery using a domestically developed artificial joint surgical robot, ushering in a new era of precision robotic surgery.
Goonjae Koo, Manager, and Youngjoo Ahn, Manager, at the Joint Center of Haeundae Bumin Hospital, recently announced the successful completion of a total hip replacement arthroplasty (THRA) using the "Cuvic-Joint HIP" system. This case follows the initial introduction of robotic hip surgery at Seoul Bumin Hospital and marks the expansion of its clinical application at Haeundae Bumin Hospital. This was the first robotic hip surgery performed at the hospital.
According to Bumin Hospital, it has been hosting the "Robot Artificial Joint Symposium" since 2022, sharing the latest surgical techniques with medical professionals both domestically and internationally. The hospital is also conducting research to standardize and improve the accuracy of robotic surgeries in collaboration with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in the United States.
The "Cuvic-Joint HIP" used in this surgery is a system that analyzes the patient's anatomical structure in three dimensions, allowing for precise preoperative surgical planning. The robot then performs bone cutting and artificial joint implantation based on this plan. This enhances the accuracy of implant positioning and helps minimize complications such as leg length discrepancy and dislocation.
Manager Goonjae Koo stated, "By combining the clinical experience of the medical team with the precision of robotic technology, we can now offer safer and more predictable surgeries. We aim to further improve surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction through personalized treatments."
Manager Youngjoo Ahn also said, "Robotic surgery enables precise treatment that reflects each patient's unique anatomical characteristics. We will focus on further enhancing patient safety and surgical quality."
Heungtae Jung, Chairman of Bumin Hospital Group, emphasized, "The robotic hip surgery that began in Seoul is now spreading to Haeundae, expanding the scope of its clinical application. We will take the lead in standardizing robotic artificial joint surgery through collaboration between hospitals."
