Adbiotech Responds to Sporadic AI Outbreaks: "Strengthening Preventive Measures and Advancing Response Technologies Needed"
As highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) continues to occur sporadically, Adbiotech stated on April 2 that the need to strengthen on-site quarantine measures and to secure mid- to long-term response technologies is growing simultaneously. Although the seasonal risk has somewhat decreased due to the northward migration of wild birds, the company assessed that it is still too early to be at ease, as additional confirmed cases are occurring at layer farms.
While the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has extended the special quarantine period and maintained the crisis alert at the 'serious' level in some regions, there is growing attention on the possibility of further sporadic outbreaks in the field. In fact, with an additional case of highly pathogenic H5N1 AI confirmed at a layer farm in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, authorities have implemented emergency measures, including culling and movement restrictions.
In this situation, if quarantine networks become lax, sporadic outbreaks at individual farms could lead to successive spread. This is why there are growing calls to tighten access control, disinfection, vehicle quarantine, and surveillance, especially in areas densely populated with layer farms and near migratory bird habitats, to further strengthen on-site biosecurity protocols.

Meanwhile, Adbiotech is also developing AI-related prevention and treatment technologies as part of its mid- to long-term response strategy. In January of this year, the company confirmed the oral efficacy of 'Anti-H9 ScFv', an antibody-based preventive and therapeutic agent targeting low pathogenic H9N2 avian influenza.
