The Sejong National Strategy Forum is a policy discussion platform hosted by the Sejong Institute, a private non-profit research organization established in 1983 specializing in diplomacy, security, and unification. It serves as a leading venue for discussions on foreign policy and security, with participation from current and former senior officials and experts both from Korea and abroad. This year’s forum was held under the theme “Trump 2.0 and South Korea’s Foreign Policy.”
CSO Wong participated as a panelist in the session “Trump 2.0 and New Global Order,” where he assessed that the changing international security environment is providing new opportunities for the South Korea-U.S. alliance. In particular, he stressed that, based on Korea’s accumulated capabilities in advanced manufacturing and heavy industry, the alliance should expand beyond its military focus toward technological cooperation and supply chain resilience.
He pointed out that recently, Western countries such as the United States and Europe have begun to recognize the necessity of securing a certain level of domestic production capacity across the entire manufacturing sector, including the defense industry and shipbuilding. He added, “The South Korea-U.S. alliance must also advance to the next level in this context, focusing on defense industry cooperation and a long-term economic partnership.”
