Hyungjun Kang, Databricks Korea Chief: "Korea's Revenue Doubles Every Year... Supporting Talent Development"
"Databricks Aims to Train 10,000 Advanced Data and AI Professionals"
US data and AI company Databricks is strengthening its push into the Korean market. The company plans to launch its database 'Lakehouse' for artificial intelligence (AI) agents in Korea next month, with the goal of actively targeting the enterprise market.
On April 1, Databricks held its conference, 'AI Days Seoul,' at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas Hotel and announced that its domestic revenue grew by more than 100% year-on-year in the last fiscal year.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Databricks recently surpassed an annualized revenue of USD 5.4 billion (approximately KRW 7.9 trillion) as of the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025, recording a global growth rate of over 65% compared to the previous year. The company has introduced products such as 'Lakehouse,' a serverless Postgres database for AI agents, and 'Genie,' an AI agent that enables users to interact with data and get instant answers.
At a press roundtable that day, Hyungjun Kang, General Manager of Databricks Korea, emphasized, "Korea is currently experiencing an exceptional growth momentum as companies accelerate large-scale AI adoption. Having entered the Korean market four years ago, we have been doubling our growth every year."
Kang added, "Not only companies but also the Korean government are aiming to become one of the world's top three AI powerhouses, creating strong synergy. With a team of AI specialists, Databricks will actively support the cultivation of talent by offering a variety of training programs to help Korea establish itself as a global leader in enterprise AI." The company aims to nurture 10,000 professionals with advanced data and AI competencies over the next three years through training workshops and partnerships with domestic industry organizations.
During the conference, Korean companies using Databricks products also shared their experiences. LG Uplus Executive Director Jeongho Shin said, "By utilizing Gemini hosted on Databricks and operating our self-developed Korean-language embedding model within the Databricks environment, we were able to build an efficient multi-model foundation for large language model (LLM) services."
