Tiger Woods, the "golf emperor" from the United States, who was previously arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, has announced that he will suspend his activities for the foreseeable future.
On March 31 (local time), Woods stated on his X (formerly Twitter) account, "I am well aware of the seriousness of my situation," adding, "I will be stepping away for a while to receive treatment and focus on my recovery." He continued, "I intend to take as much time as needed to come back healthier and stronger," and requested, "During this period, I hope my privacy, as well as that of my family and loved ones, will be respected."

He attempted to overtake a pickup truck towing a small trailer, resulting in a collision that caused his vehicle to overturn. At the scene, Woods underwent a breathalyzer test and tested negative for alcohol, but he refused a urine test. He was arrested and detained in accordance with state law, but was later released on bail.
According to a report released by the Martin County Sheriff's Office, authorities discovered two white opioid pills, commonly used for pain management, at the scene of the accident. Opioids are classified as narcotic analgesics, and "zombie drug" fentanyl also belongs to the opioid category.

Woods had also been arrested in May 2017 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. At that time, he was found asleep at the wheel on a road near his home, and tests revealed the presence of several medications, including opioids. He was penalized with a fine, probation, and community service. Regarding the recent accident, Woods has pleaded not guilty to DUI charges and reportedly requested a jury trial.
