UN Human Rights Council Adopts North Korean Human Rights Resolution for 24th Consecutive Year
The North Korean Human Rights Resolution, in which the South Korean government participated as a co-sponsor, was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council on the 30th (local time).
According to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea in Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council adopted the North Korean Human Rights Resolution by consensus without a vote during its 61st session held at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The resolution condemns North Korea's systematic and widespread human rights violations and crimes against humanity, and calls for the implementation of previous North Korean human rights resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights Council.

This resolution has been adopted for 24 consecutive years since 2003. This year, 50 countries, including South Korea, participated as co-sponsors. South Korea participated as a co-sponsor from 2008 to 2018, did not participate from 2019 under the Moon Jae-in administration, and returned as a co-sponsor in 2023 under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration.
