Worker Dies at Asia Paper Manufacturing's Sejong Plant... "Partial Suspension of Operations"
Fatal Fall Beneath Winder and Pulper at Sejong Plant
An employee at the Sejong plant of Asia Paper Manufacturing fell beneath a piece of equipment while handling wastepaper and died. Asia Paper Manufacturing plans to partially suspend operations on the affected line, as well as other lines, and will conduct a safety inspection.
On March 25, Asia Paper Manufacturing announced that one employee at the Sejong plant died the previous day after falling into the lower area between the winder (a machine that rolls paper) and the pulper (a machine that breaks down paper into pulp) while processing wastepaper.
The Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office under the Ministry of Employment and Labor, along with other investigative authorities, is conducting an on-site inspection to determine the exact cause of death. In accordance with orders from the authorities, Asia Paper Manufacturing will partially suspend operations at the Sejong plant starting today. During the suspension, the company will hold a memorial for the deceased and carry out safety inspections and improvements. As of 2024, the Sejong plant accounted for 348.5 billion won in sales, representing about 40% of the company’s total revenue.
