Kwanglim announced on March 25 that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bieungdo Fisheries Cooperative Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the Cooperative) on March 24 at the Bieungdo Fishing Village Association in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do. The agreement is aimed at the joint discovery and development of renewable energy projects.
This agreement focuses on jointly pursuing various renewable energy initiatives in the Gunsan region, including offshore wind power, solar power, and energy storage systems (ESS). The purpose goes beyond simple business expansion, as the companies intend to establish a sustainable business model based on harmony with the local fishing industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, Kwanglim will be responsible for overall business planning, development, investment, and operational management. The Cooperative will play a field-oriented role by providing information about the local fishing environment and collecting feedback from residents. Both parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including reviewing a participation-based business and profit-sharing structure for fishermen, jointly discovering renewable energy projects such as offshore wind power, and promoting programs to enhance local community acceptance and mutual growth.
Recently, the Saemangeum area has been rapidly emerging as a key hub for renewable energy and high-tech industries, with Hyundai Motor Group signing an investment agreement worth approximately 9 trillion won. In particular, as the construction of a large-scale renewable energy complex is planned, securing local community acceptance and ensuring coexistence with the fishing industry have become critical factors for the success of such projects.
Kwanglim plans to proactively respond to these changes by coordinating local interests and establishing a sustainable business structure. Previously, in 2022, the company secured permits for a wind power project with a capacity of approximately 160MW in Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do, and is currently proceeding with the related procedures. Based on this, Kwanglim intends to expand its portfolio in the Saemangeum area, focusing on offshore wind and solar power.
