Rubio's First Overseas Visit Since Outbreak of Iran War
Key Issues on the Table: Middle East Crisis and Ukraine War
Foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) nations will meet in France on March 27 to discuss the situation in the Middle East, including issues related to Iran, as well as the war in Ukraine.
According to AFP on March 24 (local time), the U.S. State Department announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit France on March 27 to attend the G7 foreign ministers' meeting.
The meeting will be held in Cernay-la-Ville, near Versailles in the suburbs of Paris. The participants will include the foreign ministers of the G7 member countries: the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, and Italy.
The U.S. State Department explained that Secretary Rubio is expected to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, the situation in the Middle East, and global threats to peace and stability during this meeting. The issue of Iran is expected to be one of the key agenda items.
This visit to France marks Secretary Rubio's first overseas trip since the outbreak of war following the U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February 28. The visit is also noteworthy because it comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to pursue dialogue with Iran.
