Social Media Exposure of Women's Private Lives... Prosecutors Indict 'Ju Club' Operator in Detention
Charges Include Violations of Sexual Crimes Act and Retaliatory Threats
A man in his 30s who exposed the personal information of unspecified women online and extorted money from them has been indicted and will stand trial while in detention.
The Criminal Division 9 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Ko Eunbyeol) indicted Mr. Kim (34), the operator of 'Ju Club,' on March 20, on charges including defamation and blackmail under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, and retaliatory threats.
Mr. Kim is suspected of distributing posts and photos revealing unverified private lives of women, including entertainment workers and ordinary individuals, via social media platforms such as 'Ju Club' since April last year. It is reported that he demanded virtual currency worth about 50 million won from victims who requested the posts be deleted.

Previously, after receiving complaints from victims in May last year, the police analyzed the website and arrested Mr. Kim before referring him to prosecutors. During a supplementary investigation, prosecutors confirmed threatening text messages sent by Mr. Kim to the victims and added charges of retaliatory threats.
