Ahead of the September Summit, Korea and Central Asia Strengthen Cultural Heritage Solidarity through Nowruz
National Heritage Administration Holds Cooperation Roundtable and Book Launch Event
Ambassadors from Five Central Asian Countries Including Kazakhstan Attend
The National Heritage Administration held a Korea-Central Asia Cultural Heritage Cooperation Roundtable and a commemorative event for the publication of the Nowruz book on the 18th at the Korea Foundation Global Center in Seoul, in partnership with the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage Center, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Korea, and others.
This event was organized to lay the foundation for cultural heritage cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the five Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Nowruz is a traditional spring festival celebrated in the Eurasian region and is a shared intangible heritage of the Silk Road, jointly inscribed by 13 countries on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
At the roundtable, Choi Bokgeun, Deputy Administrator of the National Heritage Administration, and ambassadors from the five Central Asian countries in Korea discussed ways to cooperate on national heritage. After a book presentation ceremony highlighting the value of Nowruz, a seminar was held on the theme of "The Future of Korea-Central Asia Cultural Heritage Cooperation." The event was attended by approximately seventy experts, including Lee Heesoo, Professor Emeritus at Hanyang University, and Son Younghoon, Director of the Central Asia Research Institute at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

A representative from the National Heritage Administration stated, "Ahead of the Korea-Central Asia Summit scheduled for September, we have established a consensus for exchange in the field of cultural heritage," adding, "We will expand practical cooperation for the protection and utilization of national heritage."
