KISA Releases Guide on 5G Private Network Security Threats and Countermeasures
The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced on the 18th that it has released the "5G Private Network Security Guide," which covers security threats that may arise in 5G private networks and corresponding countermeasures. The purpose is to strengthen security throughout the entire process from the construction to the operation of 5G networks, which serve as a core foundation for the transition to artificial intelligence (AX).
A 5G private network is a customized network that implements IT services such as intelligent factories (smart factories) by allocating frequencies to specific buildings or land. Only authorized devices can access the network in these restricted areas, enabling the stable provision of highly reliable services. Currently, 5G is spreading across various industrial sectors in line with the AX trend. As of last year, there were 104 companies and institutions in Korea that had established 5G private networks, a fourfold increase over four years.
The guide contains potential security threats that may occur across domestic 5G private networks and provides countermeasures for each type of threat. It also includes practical, work-focused security standards, such as a "security checklist" that can be used in the field.
