According to the Mokpo Fire Station and other sources, a report was received at approximately 4:21 a.m. on March 18, 2026, regarding a fire at a shipyard in Yeonsang-dong, Mokpo City.
Upon receiving the report, the fire department dispatched 26 pieces of equipment and 56 personnel to the site to extinguish the fire, and the blaze was fully put out 44 minutes after it broke out, at around 5:05 a.m.
As a result of the fire, two container units and various items stored inside were completely burned, and portions of the factory building's ceiling and walls were either scorched or damaged by the flames. Fortunately, there were no workers inside the factory at the time, so no casualties occurred.
The fire department suspects the fire initially started in timber intended for shipbuilding that was stacked inside the shipyard.
