AI Enhances Shipyard Safety... Dong-Eui University RISE Project Group and HJ Heavy Industries Sign Agreement to Cultivate Convergence Talents
Establishing an Industry-Academia-Research Network in AI and Safety
Dong-Eui University will collaborate with HJ Heavy Industries to implement a convergence safety program utilizing AI technology at shipyards.
The RISE Project Group at Dong-Eui University (headed by Kim Sunghui) announced on March 17 that it had signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement with HJ Heavy Industries on March 13. The agreement aims to ensure the successful promotion of the AI-Centered University Project and to cultivate talents specialized in AI and safety convergence.
The signing ceremony, held at HJ Heavy Industries, was attended by Kim Sunghui, Head of the RISE Project Group at Dong-Eui University; Professor Oh Sunyoung from the Department of Industrial Management and Big Data Engineering; Lee Hyunseop, Director of the Shared Cooperation Center; Ahn Pyeonggeun, Shipyard Director at HJ Heavy Industries; Hong Soonchang, Head of Shipbuilding Safety and Health Management; and Kim Byungho, Head of Shipbuilding Safety and Health Operations, among other representatives.

View original imageUnder the agreement, the two institutions will jointly develop and operate education programs in AI and safety, and establish a collaborative network among industry, academia, and research. They will also work together on programs such as team teaching, capstone design, and internship operations.
The areas of cooperation also include data utilization for the activation of AI and AX education, verification of practical effectiveness on-site, academic consulting and research support, and joint research and development (R&D).
Through this agreement, Dong-Eui University plans to provide students majoring in safety management with special lectures by HJ Heavy Industries professionals and opportunities for field training. The university will also focus on cultivating talents for safety management utilizing AI technology.
Kim Sunghui, Head of the RISE Project Group at Dong-Eui University, stated, "By combining the university's research capabilities with the industrial field expertise of companies, we will focus on nurturing professionals to lead the AI-based shipbuilding industry. We aim to expand field-oriented education and joint research, developing this initiative into an industry-academia cooperation model and contributing to regional industrial development."
