Conan O'Brien Delivers Sharp Rebuke to Hollywood Power Players at the Oscars
Pointed Jokes Aimed at Timothée Chalamet and Ted Sarandos
Famous American broadcaster Conan O'Brien delivered a sharp rebuke to Hollywood power players at the 98th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles (LA) on March 15 (local time).
Hosting the ceremony for the second consecutive year, he opened the event with a pre-recorded video in which he appeared as Amy Madigan from the film "Weapon," being chased by children. After the video depicted the kids rushing into the live-broadcast theater, O'Brien appeared on stage in a tuxedo.
O'Brien used the recent controversial remarks by Timothée Chalamet as material for his jokes. "Security is tight tonight due to concerns about attacks from the ballet and opera communities," he quipped, adding, "They're angry you left out jazz." He then satirized the current political climate by saying, "If anyone feels uncomfortable, you can check out the alternative awards show hosted by Kid Rock at the nearby Dave & Buster's arcade."
Addressing Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, O'Brien joked, "This must be your first time in a theater," and mocked Netflix's business model by saying, "I make money when everyone stays home alone, so why are you all gathered here having fun?"
