Full Revision of "Guide to Modern and Contemporary Cultural Heritage" Published After 15 Years
Spotlight on New Systems Including "Preliminary Cultural Heritage"
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on March 11 that it has published the "Guide to Modern and Contemporary Cultural Heritage," a resource that clearly explains the preservation system and administrative procedures for modern and contemporary cultural heritage.
This guide is a complete revision of the registered cultural property manual that was published in 2011. It aims to improve understanding among administrative staff and the general public, and to minimize confusion caused by changes in the system.
The guide also focuses on newly introduced systems established under the relevant law enacted in 2023. It explains unfamiliar concepts in an easy-to-understand way using diagrams and Q&A formats, such as "Preliminary Cultural Heritage," which requires special management due to its high likelihood of future registration, "Modern and Contemporary Cultural Heritage Districts," which encompass surrounding areas, and "Essential Preservation Elements," which must retain their original form.
