[Market Focus] Fertilizer Stocks Including Chobi, Namhae Chemical, and Kyungnong Surge Amid Iran Crisis
As prospects for a prolonged crisis in Iran emerge, domestic fertilizer-related stocks are showing a sharp surge across the board in early trading on March 9.
As of 9:50 a.m. on this day at the Korea Exchange, Chobi was trading at 18,960 won, up 4,370 won (29.9%) from the previous day. At the same time, Namhae Chemical rose by 2,270 won (29.9%) to 9,860 won, and Hyosung ONB increased by 1,840 won (29.8%) to 8,000 won, with fertilizer-related stocks exhibiting strong performance during the session.
Kyungnong was trading at 11,630 won, up 2,300 won (23.0%) from the previous day; Hanil Feed rose by 1,170 won (28.4%) to 5,280 won; Nouveau increased by 301 won (23.7%) to 1,566 won; and Hantap rose by 163 won (19.9%) to 981 won. Overall, there is a strong inflow of buy orders across fertilizer and agriculture-related stocks.
The market views this as being driven by heightened concerns over instability in the global fertilizer raw material and energy supply, triggered by escalating geopolitical tensions surrounding Iran. Since the Middle East region, including Iran, is closely linked to natural gas-based nitrogen fertilizer production, there is increasing discussion about the possibility of fertilizer prices rising if geopolitical risks expand.
