System Failures Hit Securities Firms' MTS Amid Stock Market Volatility... Financial Supervisory Service Launches Inspection
Following the armed conflict between the United States and Iran, volatility in the domestic stock market has increased, resulting in a series of system failures at securities firms. In response, the financial authorities have begun inspections.
According to the financial investment industry on March 6, the Financial Supervisory Service is currently investigating the cause of a service disruption that occurred the previous morning in the account balance inquiry service of the mobile trading system (MTS) operated by Korea Investment & Securities.
An official from the Financial Supervisory Service explained, "We have identified a balance inquiry error in the Korea Investment & Securities MTS and are looking into the cause of this incident. After determining the cause, we will establish measures to prevent recurrence and review whether additional responses are necessary."
Previously, on the day the KOSPI recorded its largest-ever decline, service errors also occurred at several securities firms, including Mirae Asset Securities and Kakao Pay Securities.

It appears that the number of reports of system failures has also increased recently as trading volumes surged due to sharp declines and rebounds in the stock market. The total transaction amount in the KOSPI, KOSDAQ, and KONEX markets was 69.699 trillion won on March 3 and 79.472 trillion won on March 4. These amounts far exceed this year's average daily transaction amount of 45.35 trillion won.
