People Power Party Heads to Blue House: "If Veto Is Not Exercised on Three Judicial Bills, the People Will Reject Them"
Protests Outside the National Assembly Likely to Continue for Now
Calls Within the Party for a Parallel Shift in Strategy
The People Power Party has called on President Lee Jaemyung to exercise his veto against the 'Three Judicial Reform Bills' (the Constitutional Complaint Act, the Crime of Distorting the Law Act, and the Supreme Court Justice Expansion Act).
At a field general meeting held in front of the Blue House in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of March 5, Party Leader Jang stated, "If the people remain idle even after witnessing the passage of these unjust laws, the price Korea will have to pay will be devastating. Now is the time for the people to take action."
The People Power Party had originally planned a protest march in the afternoon, walking from the National Assembly to the Blue House to demand the President’s veto of the three judicial reform bills. However, after reports that the government would submit the bills to the Cabinet meeting, the party changed its plans and held a field general meeting instead, attended by more than 70 incumbent lawmakers. Party Leader Jang stated, "If these three bills pass, the judicial order and liberal democracy of Korea will be completely destroyed."
Song Eon-seok, the party’s floor leader, quoted the poem 'Yeosu Jang Ujungmun-si,' which General Eulji Mundeok is said to have sent to General Yu Zhongwen during the Yeosu War, saying, "President Lee must not further stain the pages of history with wrongdoing." He added, "Restrain those inciting the withdrawal of indictments and threats or intimidation against the Chief Justice, and personally request the resumption of the five trials." Immediately after the general meeting, the People Power Party delivered a 'Request for Withdrawal of the Three Judicially Destructive Evil Laws' to Jeong Eulho, Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, and staged a protest march in front of the Blue House.

However, skepticism has also been raised both inside and outside the party regarding the People Power Party’s plan to protest outside the parliament. Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party, pointed out on this day, "While proclaiming to defend the judiciary and launching a protest movement, the People Power Party has allowed those who openly deny the authority of the judiciary (election fraud theorists) to board their ship."
