'Guitar Man' Producer Sues Distributor for Embezzlement and Breach of Trust: "Unpaid Settlement and Misappropriated Settlement Fees"
Sungwon Pharm Files Complaint with Seocho Police Station
Raises Suspicions of Opaque Handling of 100 Million Won in Promotional Expenses
Sungwon Pharm, the producer of the film "Guitar Man," announced on March 4 that it filed a criminal complaint against distributor CMNIX with the Seocho Police Station in Seoul on February 23, accusing the company of embezzlement and breach of trust. "Guitar Man" is a film starring the late Kim Saeron and Lee Sunjeong, which was released in May last year.
A representative from Sungwon Pharm claimed, "CMNIX handled the 100 million won in promotional expenses paid before the release in an opaque manner." The company further pointed out, "Despite promising exposure through popular YouTubers and social media promotion, the only promotional activity actually carried out was a single press screening, and no other publicity efforts were made."
Sungwon Pharm also raised suspicions that profits were taken without the copyright holder's consent. The company criticized, "CMNIX randomly filed criminal complaints against internet users who leaked the film online and collected settlement fees. We only became aware of this after being contacted by the police, and even now, the scale and details of these settlements are being concealed."

Furthermore, Sungwon Pharm stated, "CMNIX also failed to settle overseas distribution and additional rights sales," and added, "When we demanded contract termination, they unilaterally pressured us into an agreement that would prevent us from raising any objections regarding settlements or the execution of promotional expenses." Sungwon Pharm intends to actively cooperate with investigative authorities to clarify the facts.
