According to the Serious Accident Investigation Team of Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on March 3, at around 11:43 a.m. on February 28, a 35-year-old Cambodian worker, referred to as Mr. A, was trapped under a 1-ton ship block at a mid-sized shipyard located in the Daebul National Industrial Complex, Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do.
Mr. A suffered serious injuries from the accident and was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency responders but ultimately passed away despite receiving treatment.
The investigation revealed that Mr. A was working inside the plant, using a crane to fabricate and move a ship block when the block suddenly overturned, resulting in the fatal incident.
The police plan to conduct a thorough investigation into the shipyard officials for possible occupational negligence resulting in death, including violations of safety regulations.

The labor authorities also issued an immediate full work suspension order at the site following the accident, and are rigorously examining whether there were violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and other relevant laws.
