Starting from lane 1, Lee Junseo took off and South Korea settled into third place behind Canada and the Netherlands. On the 10th lap, South Korea allowed Italy to overtake and dropped to last place. While three teams battled for the lead, South Korea stayed comfortably at the back, waiting for an opportunity. The team moved up to third place on the 22nd lap and then climbed back to second on the 28th lap. With a powerful surge, Lee Jeongmin pushed the team into the lead on the 34th lap.
However, they could not hold the lead to the end. They slipped to second on the 39th lap and then fell to third with two laps remaining. But anchor skater Hwang Daeheon overtook Italy with half a lap to go and crossed the finish line second behind the Netherlands. Italy took the bronze medal.
