Soonchunhyang University Earns 'A' Across All Teacher Training Programs... Top Grade for Early Childhood, Special Education, and Graduate School of Education
Core Programs Earn A Grade in Sixth Cycle Teacher Training Institution Assessment,
Allowing Enrollment Quotas to Be Maintained Without Reduction
Soonchunhyang University announced that its Department of Early Childhood Education, Department of Special Education, and Graduate School of Education received an A grade in the "2025 Sixth Cycle Teacher Training Institution Competency Assessment" conducted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Educational Development Institute. The university received top-level evaluations across the entire teacher training process and will be able to maintain its current enrollment quota without any reductions.
According to Soonchunhyang University on February 11, this assessment is a national-level evaluation that comprehensively reviewed educational conditions, curriculum operation, practice-based education, and educational outcomes over the past three years (from 2022 to 2024). It was conducted on 139 teacher training institutions across the country.
As a result of the assessment, the Department of Early Childhood Education and the Department of Special Education received the highest A grade in all areas, including the appropriateness of curriculum design and operation, a practice-centered education system, faculty competency, student guidance, and overall educational outcomes.
In addition, its field-oriented education and systematic program operation aimed at strengthening the competencies of pre-service teachers were recognized as exemplary cases.
The Graduate School of Education also received an A grade by earning high scores in retraining and professional development, practicum and educational outcomes, and student satisfaction. It was assessed that the teacher training system, which encompasses both pre-service and in-service teachers, is operating in a stable manner. The teacher training program in the general undergraduate college received a B grade.
The Ministry of Education will reflect these results in the adjustment of teacher training enrollment quotas for the 2027 academic year. For C-grade institutions, the quota will be reduced by 30%; for D-grade institutions, by 50%; and for E-grade institutions, the teacher training function will be abolished.
Soonchunhyang University was excluded from the quota reduction targets, and A-grade programs become eligible for a commendation from the Minister of Education.
