Gangnam District Selects Suseo Station Area as Target Site for Robotics Industry Hub
671,000 m² Designated as the "Suseo Robot Specific Development Promotion District"
Incentives such as Relaxed Floor Area Ratio and Local Tax Reductions
The area around Suseo Station in Gangnam District, Seoul (headed by District Mayor Cho Sungmyung), has been selected as the target site for the "Suseo Robot Specific Development Promotion District."
The district office announced on the 10th that a total of 671,378 square meters around Suseo Station had received final approval on the 3rd as a target site for the Robot Specific Development Promotion District, following deliberation by the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Industrial and Specific Development Promotion District Deliberation Committee. It has begun full-scale follow-up procedures to establish a strategic hub for the robotics industry.
The Industrial and Specific Development Promotion District system is designed to create favorable location conditions so that future growth engine industries can grow stably, and to induce private investment in order to promote industrial clustering and innovation. Once the final district designation is completed, new buildings may receive relaxed regulations, with floor area ratio and building coverage ratio eased up to a maximum of 1.2 times the legal upper limit according to the proportion of recommended business types attracted, and incentives such as financial loan support and local tax reductions will also be applied.
Going forward, the district office plans to establish a promotion plan and an urban management plan, then sequentially submit them for deliberation to the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Industrial and Specific Development Promotion District Deliberation Committee and the Urban Planning Committee, and, through related consultations, finalize the designation of the "Suseo Robot Specific Development Promotion District."
The Suseo area is located at the center of the future industry belt in southeastern Seoul that connects Samseong (MICE), Suseo (robotics), and Gaepo/Yangjae (AI and R&D), giving it locational competitiveness where transportation, research, and industrial functions can be organically integrated. Building on these strengths, the district office plans to establish research facilities for the convergence of robotics and AI, attract related companies and research institutions, and foster the area as a hub where technology demonstration and industrial diffusion occur simultaneously.
