The Pohang Scholarship Foundation held the "2026 New Year’s Gathering and the 1st Board of Directors Meeting" on the 4th.
This board meeting was the last full board meeting chaired by Chairman Lee Kangdeok before his retirement, and it was organized as a meaningful occasion to look back on the achievements of the foundation’s operations and to call for its continued development in the future.
In particular, senior advisory members who had previously served as directors of the foundation and helped lay the groundwork for its scholarship programs were specially invited to the meeting, and deep gratitude was expressed for their dedicated efforts in nurturing local talent over the years.
Chairman Lee Kangdeok emphasized that the experience and dedication of the senior directors had become a solid foundation for building today’s Pohang Scholarship Foundation, and he asked for their continued interest and advice so that the foundation can remain stable and continue to play a central role in fostering local talent.
In his greeting, Chairman Lee Kangdeok said, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the citizens, donors, directors, and advisory members who have quietly devoted themselves to nurturing local talent and leading the development of the foundation," adding, "I hope that the valuable experience and lessons accumulated over the years will continue to be a strong asset for the Pohang Scholarship Foundation and help it further grow into a truly leading cradle of talent development."
During his tenure, Chairman Lee Kangdeok played a pivotal role in establishing an overall operational system for the foundation and creating a scholarship fund totaling 40 billion won, thereby building a stable and sustainable foundation for nurturing talent in the Pohang region.
Immediately after the board meeting, a scholarship donation ceremony for fostering local talent was held.
Kim Sangsoo, head of the Scholarship Program Promotion Team at the Pohang Scholarship Foundation and chairman of the Pohang Volunteer Center, donated 5 million won. Kim Jeongsook, who runs Ggulggulchon, Gungmulchon, and Kkokkochon, leading restaurants in the Pohang area, also donated 5 million won, joining efforts to give back to the local community.
In addition, Kim Hyeongon, head of the law office Kim Hyeongon, donated 1 million won.
Kim contributes to the stable operation of the scholarship programs by providing practical advisory services and operational support related to the foundation’s registration.
All three donors who participated in this donation are directors of the Pohang Scholarship Foundation, and they shared a commitment to supporting the nurturing of local talent.
