Pocheon City to Subsidize 190 Electric Vehicles in First Half of 2026...New "Conversion Subsidy" Up to 1.3 Million Won
Up to 1.3 Million Won in Additional Support for Converting from Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles
Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province will promote purchase support for 190 electric vehicles in the first half of 2026 to expand eco-friendly transportation systems and achieve carbon neutrality.
To be eligible to apply for electric vehicle subsidies, applicants must be citizens aged 18 or older who have continuously resided in Pocheon City for at least 60 days as of the application date, or corporations and institutions located in Pocheon City. Subsidies are limited to one vehicle per person or per institution. Only those who have not received any electric vehicle subsidies within the past two years are allowed to apply.
Applications will be accepted until the budget is exhausted, and recipients will be selected not in the order of application, but in the order of vehicle release and registration. Those wishing to purchase must first sign a contract with an automobile manufacturer or importer and then apply through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
In the first half of this year, purchase subsidies will be provided to Pocheon citizens and corporations and institutions within the city for a total of 140 electric passenger cars, 48 electric trucks, and 2 electric buses.
In particular, starting this year, a new "conversion subsidy" system has been introduced to reduce the burden on citizens switching from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. If an individual who has owned an internal combustion engine vehicle (excluding hybrids) that has been in use for at least three years since its initial registration for at least three years scraps or sells that vehicle on or after January 1, 2026, and purchases an electric vehicle, they can receive up to an additional 1.3 million won in support, depending on the amount of the national subsidy for the new vehicle.
However, to prevent fraudulent claims, conversion subsidies will not be provided for transactions between family members. Support will not be available if the vehicle is donated or sold to family members such as a spouse or lineal ascendants or descendants.
