The Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra will hold the first performance of its signature series, the "Matinee Concert," on February 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grand Hall of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center.
The Matinee Concert is a program that combines beautiful music with easy and engaging commentary, offering audiences a special morning experience and earning consistent affection from classical music enthusiasts.
This year, in particular, marks the 270th anniversary of Mozart's birth, and the series will explore his musical world through four distinct themes. Under the baton of Artistic Director Ja Kyung Yeo, this series will go beyond simple appreciation to delve into Mozart's life and art, promising a richer and more multidimensional stage.
The first theme is "Heavenly Order - Mozart, From Breath to the Universe." Focusing on the unique sense of balance in Mozart's music, the program will present his musical journey in an accessible and friendly way, highlighting how his works demonstrate cosmic expansion within an orderly structure.
The opening performance will feature principal flutist Cheolhee Jo of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, who will perform "Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major." Having studied at the Korea National University of Arts and the Berlin University of the Arts in Germany, Cheolhee Jo brings extensive experience from both domestic and international stages. He will convey the distinctive balance and pure beauty of Mozart's music through the flute's soft timbre and technical brilliance within the bright and lively melodies.
The next piece will be Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C major, "Jupiter," which is regarded as a masterpiece by renowned conductors worldwide. Known as Mozart's final symphony, this work showcases grandeur and orderly beauty through its bright, powerful melodies and meticulous structure.
To help the audience gain a deeper understanding of the musical context, announcer Seunghee Choi will provide detailed commentary, promising a rich experience where music and storytelling coexist.
