Having rewritten Indonesia's box office history by surpassing Hollywood blockbusters, "Jumbo" is now set to meet Korean audiences.
On January 28, distributor Barunson E&A announced that "Jumbo" will premiere in Korea on February 18. This fantasy adventure animation tells the story of Don, who is teased for his large size, and his friends as they embark on an adventure in the spirit world to rescue their secret friend Mary, who is in danger. The film combines a heartwarming story tailored for children with original imagination, which has resonated strongly with local audiences.
According to Indonesian box office tracking site Cinepoint, "Jumbo" attracted 4.97 million viewers within four weeks of its release, surpassing "Frozen 2" to become the top-grossing animated film of all time in Indonesia. The film continued its upward trend, ultimately reaching a cumulative audience of 10.23 million. This achievement ranks as the third highest box office record in Indonesia's history.
The film's solid production capabilities are cited as the key to its success. Production company Visinema Studios dedicated five years and over 400 artists to focus their creative efforts on the project. CEO Angga Dwimas Sasongko expressed pride, stating, "This is the realization of our vision to prove the power of Southeast Asian storytelling to the world."
