Reflecting Rising Taxi Operating Costs and Changes in Conditions
Effective from February 1... Late-Night and Combined Surcharges Remain Unchanged
On January 26, the city of Gyeongju announced that it will adjust taxi fares and rates in accordance with the Gyeongsangbuk-do province's taxi fare and rate standards, reflecting rising taxi operating costs and changes in transportation conditions.
This adjustment is based on the standards finalized through the review of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Price Countermeasure Committee and will be applied throughout all areas of Gyeongju City starting February 1.

The distance fare will be adjusted from 100 won per 131 meters to 100 won per 128 meters, and the time fare for speeds below 15 km/h will be changed from 100 won per 31 seconds to 100 won per 30 seconds.
On the other hand, late-night surcharges (from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the next day), out-of-district surcharges, and combined surcharges will remain unchanged under the current standards.
The city of Gyeongju expects that this adjustment of taxi fares and rates will help respond to changing taxi transportation conditions and maintain a stable operating environment.
Prior to the implementation of the new fares and rates, the city plans to inform citizens through banners posted in towns, villages, and neighborhoods, electronic display boards, and meetings with local leaders.
Joo Nakyoung, Mayor of Gyeongju City, emphasized, "This adjustment of taxi fares and rates has been carried out in accordance with the relevant procedures, reflecting Gyeongbuk Province's standards," adding, "We will do our utmost to provide advance notice and publicity to prevent any confusion during the implementation process."
Meanwhile, Gyeongju City plans to share opinions on overall service operations by communicating with taxi transportation business stakeholders in relation to the implementation of the fare and rate adjustment.
