Macron Convenes Emergency Defense Meeting to Discuss Iran and Greenland Issues
On the morning of January 15 (local time), President Emmanuel Macron of France reportedly convened an emergency defense meeting to discuss the violent suppression of anti-government protests in Iran and the issue of Greenland, a Danish territory.
According to major foreign media outlets and Yonhap News, the meeting chaired by President Macron was attended by ministers from relevant departments and top military officials, and it is reported that they discussed response measures to the current security situation.
The spokesperson for the French government stated that, during the previous day's cabinet meeting, President Macron directly addressed the Trump administration's overt demands for the transfer of sovereignty over Greenland, warning, "If the sovereignty of a European ally is violated, the repercussions will be unprecedented." Currently, Greenland is a territory of Denmark.
In this context, the Danish government is leading a joint military exercise called "Operation Arctic Endurance" in Greenland starting today, with France also participating. Security tensions are rising between the United States and European countries over the issue of Greenland.
