Cinecube to Release Its First Imported Film of 2026, "The Second Season," on January 28
Cinecube announced on January 15 that director St?phane Briz?'s film "The Second Season" will be released on January 28.
The film tells the story of a man and a woman who reunite 15 years after their breakup. It realistically portrays the psychological changes experienced by the successful actor Mathieu (Guillaume Canet) and piano teacher Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) as they meet again by chance. The work stands out for Briz?'s signature restrained direction and delicate screenplay.
"The Second Season" was invited to the competition section of the Venice International Film Festival. The foreign media outlet Herald Sun highlighted the film's tension, stating, "Every word exchanged between the reunited lovers keeps you on edge," and cited the intimate conversations between the two as the film's highlight. The movie breaks away from the conventions of typical melodramas, delving deeply into philosophical themes such as the essence of love and the emptiness of life.
Park Jiye, team leader of Tcast Cinecube, commented, "'The Second Season' precisely depicts the emotions that only begin after a breakup," adding, "It will leave a lingering impression that prompts viewers to reflect on the meaning of life beyond love."
This film is Cinecube's first imported and distributed title of the year, operated by Taekwang Group's Tcast. Despite the nationwide decline of art-house cinemas, Cinecube has maintained its legacy for over 25 years. The unwavering commitment of former Taekwang Group Chairman Lee Hojin to fostering art films has been the driving force behind its long-term operation.
