National Museum of Korea Surpasses 6.5 Million Visitors... "On Par with the World's Top Three Museums"
Surpassed 6 Million Visitors on December 11
500,000 More in Just 20 Days
This year, for the first time ever, the number of visitors to the National Museum of Korea has surpassed 6.5 million, setting yet another all-time record.
As of January 2, the National Museum of Korea announced that the total annual number of visitors for this year reached 6,507,483. This figure represents an increase of approximately 1.7 times compared to the 3,788,785 visitors recorded in 2024.
The cumulative number of visitors exceeded 6 million for the first time on December 11 of last year, and then increased by an additional 500,000 in just about 20 days. This marks the highest record since the museum (then known as the National Museum) opened in 1945.
This achievement ranks among the very top even when compared to major museums and art galleries worldwide. According to 2024 statistics from a British art magazine, an annual visitor count in the 6.5 million range is surpassed only by the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, and the Vatican Museums.
The total cumulative number of visitors for 2025, combining the National Museum of Korea and its 13 affiliated museums nationwide, reached 14,773,111.
