The “Museum on the Road” project, which expands everyday spaces into exhibition venues, provides an opportunity for the approximately 240,000 daily drivers passing through this frequently congested section to experience art in their daily lives instead of boredom.
To mark the New Year, starting January 2, the museum will display six masterpieces with warm tones that offer comfort and coziness to citizens during the winter season, under the theme “Warmth Delivered Through Art on Cold Winter Streets.” These works are among the major pieces featured in the permanent exhibitions at the Seoul and Gwacheon branches of the museum.
The newly presented works include “Mountain” by Yoo Youngkuk, a pioneer of Korean abstract art; “Bird and Family” by Jang Ukjin, which expresses affection for family; “Peonies at Hwaryeongjeon” by Na Hye-seok, Korea’s first female Western-style painter; “Spring Landscape” by Oh Jiho; “Scarecrow and Desert” by Lee Bongsang; and “T Composition” by Han Mook. The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art plans to continue introducing a variety of contemporary art content, including major exhibitions, following this release of painting masterpieces.
