Hanul Semiconductor Succeeds in Localizing MLCC Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Inspection Device
Hanul Semiconductor announced on December 12 that it has successfully localized an ultrasonic non-destructive inspection device for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC), which had been virtually monopolized by Japan's H Corporation. The company will begin targeting the relevant market, starting with its first domestic supply.
MLCCs are essential electronic components that stabilize current flow and prevent signal interference. They are indispensable for artificial intelligence (AI) servers, PCs, vehicles, and automotive electronics. In particular, as demand for AI servers and automotive electronic products surges, the importance of non-destructive internal inspection for ensuring durability and reliability is rapidly increasing.
Hanul Semiconductor explained that the high price, limited inspection speed, and challenges in after-sales service for H Corporation's equipment were the main reasons for developing their own device. To enhance technical completeness, the company configured four ultrasonic modules in parallel and developed an MLCC-dedicated ultrasonic inspection device that can control them. This setup achieves inspection speeds up to four times faster than existing equipment, enabling high-density sampling inspections even on mass production lines.
The device supports acquisition of planar (C-scan), cross-sectional (B-scan), and waveform (A-scan) data, allowing for 3D visualization of the internal structure of MLCCs. The entire process has been automated, from inspections using AI algorithms to automatic classification of NG (No Good) and OK lots and statistical analysis by lot. This improves data management efficiency and minimizes discrepancies due to operator skill levels.
Hanul Semiconductor plans to expand the application of its equipment to both domestic and international clients producing MLCCs after proving its commercial viability through domestic deliveries. The company aims to leverage the competitive advantages of locally produced equipment-such as reasonable introduction costs, rapid on-site support, and customization tailored to customer processes-to aggressively pursue market entry.
A Hanul Semiconductor representative stated, "Our MLCC ultrasonic inspection device is equipped with an AI inspection algorithm, enabling fully automated and high-speed inspections simultaneously. We plan to sequentially introduce automation features that utilize the AI capabilities of our proprietary HawAIe system to improve productivity indicators such as data analysis and inference."
