View original imageAccording to statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, Pocheon City has already entered a super-aged society, and the prevalence rates of hypertension and diabetes-major risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases-are among the highest in Gyeonggi Province. This indicates a high number of "potential emergency patients" in the community, making the importance of vascular health management even greater.
In response, Pocheon Hospital of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center helped residents at the campaign site directly check their vascular health by measuring blood pressure and blood sugar levels. The hospital also focused on providing information about the main early symptoms of stroke (such as paralysis of the arms or legs and speech disorders) and myocardial infarction (such as chest pain and radiating pain), as well as guidance on how to respond. Leaflets introducing the early symptoms and response methods for severe emergency diseases were distributed to increase residents' understanding and participation.
Meanwhile, health measurements by age group showed that among seniors in their 60s to 80s, not only those already diagnosed with hypertension or diabetes but also many undiagnosed individuals were found to have blood pressure and blood sugar levels at dangerous levels. This once again highlighted the need to strengthen chronic disease management among the local elderly population.
In particular, considering the absence of a specialized cardiovascular and cerebrovascular treatment center in the area, the hospital emphasized that recognizing warning symptoms and immediately calling 119 for rapid transfer to an appropriate medical institution is crucial for securing the golden hour.
Citizens who participated in the campaign shared various opinions, such as, "I hope to receive necessary medical treatment in Pocheon rather than having to go elsewhere," and, "If the hospital is relocated or newly built, accessibility will greatly improve." Pocheon Hospital plans to use the feedback collected from residents to strengthen essential healthcare in the region and to inform future operations.
Namsoon Baek, Director of Pocheon Hospital of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center, stated, "Small actions like knowing and managing your blood pressure and blood sugar are the starting points for preventing severe emergency diseases. We will do our best to establish an early response system for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases by building a public healthcare cooperation network and to address the region's vulnerability in emergency care."
