KOSPI Holds Above 4,100 Despite Foreign Selling
KOSDAQ Closes Higher After Early Rebound
Although foreign investors continued to sell, the KOSPI index held above the 4,100 mark and closed slightly lower.
On December 9, the KOSPI closed at 4,143.55, down 0.27% from the previous day. After opening slightly lower at 4,129.77, the index maintained the 4,100 level with little fluctuation throughout the session.
By investor type, only foreign investors were net sellers, offloading 210 billion won. Meanwhile, individual investors and institutions were net buyers, purchasing 135 billion won and 14.1 billion won, respectively.
By sector, the ratio of gainers to losers was similar. Metals (up 1.35%), pharmaceuticals (up 1.20%), non-metals (up 1.16%), entertainment·culture (up 0.86%), and transportation equipment·parts (up 0.79%) rose. On the other hand, electricity·gas (down 1.51%), electrical·electronics (down 1.20%), and securities (down 0.67%) declined.
Among large-cap stocks, more companies fell than rose. Several stocks dropped more than 1%, including Hyundai Motor (down 2.8%), SK Hynix (down 1.9%), LG Energy Solution (down 1.7%), Kia (down 1.5%), and KB Financial Group (down 1.4%). In contrast, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (up 6.0%), Hanwha Aerospace (up 2.2%), and Samsung Biologics (up 1.6%) posted gains.
The KOSDAQ index closed moderately higher, up 0.38% at 931.35. Although it also started slightly lower, it rebounded early in the session and managed to stay above the 930 level.
Despite net selling by both foreign investors and institutions, the index continued to rise. Foreign investors and institutions were net sellers of 67.4 billion won and 134.9 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net buyers of 257.3 billion won.
Most sectors posted gains. Pharmaceuticals (up 1.32%), construction (up 0.95%), transportation·storage (up 0.59%), and electrical·electronics (up 0.56%) recorded the largest increases. Other manufacturing (down 0.64%) and transportation equipment·parts (down 0.58%) declined.

Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, Samchundang Pharm had the largest gain at 8.8%, followed by Ecopro BM (up 5.0%), Rainbow Robotics (up 2.6%), and Ecopro BM (up 0.2%). HLB (down 0.9%), ABL Bio (down 0.3%), Alteogen (down 0.1%), and Ligachem Bio (down 0.1%) fell.
