Pilates Student Suffers Seven-Week Fracture... Instructor Fined 6 Million Won
Negligence Occurred While Picking Up a Ball Dropped by the Student
A Pilates instructor who injured a student due to negligence during a class has been fined.
On November 28, Judge Jeon Heesook of the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 9 sentenced a Pilates instructor in her 40s, identified as A, to a fine of 6 million won for causing serious injury to a student during a class (professional negligence resulting in injury).
A was put on trial for causing injuries requiring seven weeks of treatment, including a fracture, after letting go of a piece of equipment connected to a strong spring during a Pilates class in August last year.
At the time, A committed this negligence while trying to pick up a ball that the student had dropped, resulting in the student suffering severe facial injuries. As no settlement was reached between the instructor and the injured student, the case proceeded as a criminal complaint.
