Exclusive Magma Features Introduced
Genesis has unveiled its first high-performance electric vehicle, the GV60 Magma. With this model, Genesis has officially set the direction for its 'luxury high-performance' strategy for the next decade.
On November 20 (local time) in France, Genesis held the 'Magma World Premiere' event, where it introduced the brand's first high-performance model, the GV60 Magma, for the first time globally. This vehicle is the first mass-produced high-performance electric car developed based on the concept car Genesis presented last year when it announced its entry into the high-performance segment.
Since its launch as an independent brand in 2015, Genesis has achieved a cumulative global sales milestone of 1 million units faster than any other luxury brand. Building on its growth over the past decade, Genesis has positioned 'high-performance' as a new core pillar for the next ten years, with the GV60 Magma marking the starting point of this new direction.
Genesis selected the GV60, the youngest and most dynamic model in its lineup, as its first high-performance mass-production vehicle. Starting with the GV60, Genesis plans to gradually expand its high-performance lineup by introducing additional models in different segments.
The GV60 Magma features a low and wide body, exclusive color options, and a unique three-hole design, emphasizing the distinct identity of the Magma. Among Genesis' electrified lineup, it boasts the most powerful performance: a maximum output of 650 horsepower and a peak torque of 790 Nm (in boost mode). It accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h.
With Magma-exclusive features and interface, as well as a virtual sound system, the driving experience is further distinguished. The GV60 Magma is scheduled for a sequential global launch, starting in Korea in January next year, followed by Europe, North America, and other markets.
Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer (COO) of Genesis, stated, "Magma is not a sub-brand targeted at enthusiasts, but represents the very best of Genesis," adding, "The model achieves 'strength within elegance' by meticulously tuning and enhancing specific elements while maintaining overall balance."
At the event, Genesis also unveiled the 'Magma GT Concept,' a concept model that represents the pinnacle of the Magma brand. This concept car is seen as setting the direction for the performance heritage Genesis aims to build over the next ten years.
'Quiet Luxury' - Magma-Exclusive Design
The design of the GV60 Magma focuses on expressing the 'presence of invisible power' rather than ostentatious luxury. The front end is wider and the body is lower compared to the standard GV60, creating a low and wide stance that conveys stability.
Exclusive design elements such as the three-hole pattern on the bumper highlight the Magma brand identity while also aiding airflow and cooling performance.
From the side, the vehicle's height is lowered by 20 mm, and wide fenders and large tires are applied to emphasize the low and wide proportions. At the rear, a wing-shaped spoiler connected to the roofline reduces lift and enhances driving stability.
The interior combines luxury and sportiness by using premium materials. Suede-like Chamude material is used for key areas such as the seats, doors, and center console. Orange and gray stitching on the interior color scheme further accentuates the unique Magma identity.
The steering wheel features a black emblem where the driver's hands rest, and Magma-exclusive orange and black elements are applied to various drive-related buttons for added distinction.
Genesis Magma: The Essence of High-Performance Driving
The GV60 Magma, with the highest level of power performance in Genesis' electrified lineup, clearly demonstrates the driving characteristics of a high-performance model.
With boost mode activated, the vehicle delivers up to 650 horsepower and a maximum torque of 790 Nm. The top speed is 264 km/h. Boost mode allows output and torque to be maximized for about 15 seconds.
In addition to powerful output, Genesis has ensured excellent handling stability, ride control, and comfort. The vehicle is equipped with a premium built-in Electronic Control Suspension (ECS) and End-of-Travel (EoT) control system, providing both cornering stability and a comfortable ride.
The GV60 Magma is also the first Hyundai Motor Group vehicle to feature an electrically operated 'Magma-exclusive Power 10-Way Bucket Seat.' With ventilation, memory, and cushion extension functions, the seat firmly supports the driver’s body during high-speed driving.
Drive Modes and Interface: Magma-Exclusive Features
The GV60 Magma is equipped with a variety of Magma-exclusive features, including dedicated drive modes and a digital interface.
There are three dedicated drive modes: Sprint, GT, and My. Sprint mode sets nearly all driving parameters to their maximum for optimal performance. GT mode provides sufficient power and efficiency for high-speed driving, while My mode allows users to customize various control settings to their individual preferences.
The GV60 Magma also features 'boost mode' for instant increases in output and torque, as well as 'launch control' to maximize acceleration from a standstill. These features enhance the responsiveness and acceleration unique to high-performance electric vehicles, from initial acceleration to high-speed driving.
Genesis Magma-exclusive digital interface, sound, and driving feedback further enhance driver immersion, distinguishing the GV60 Magma from other models.
The Magma-exclusive drive mode displays key driving information-such as motor, battery, and lateral acceleration-in an optimized format on the instrument cluster. Additionally, a dedicated virtual sound inspired by a six-cylinder engine delivers a heightened sense of immersion, even in an electric vehicle.
Donckerwolke emphasized, "The moment you take the wheel of the Magma, you'll be surprised by how your hidden driving skills emerge in situations requiring agile driving, such as high-speed runs or cornering. Even in extreme situations, the Magma is designed to break down the barriers of high-performance driving, maximizing the driver's confidence and sense of achievement."
