162 Citizens Rewarded for 112 Emergency Reports in Incheon This Year... Active Reporting of Voice Phishing and More
The Incheon Police Agency announced on November 17 that, as a result of implementing the "112 Caller Reward Program" since January this year, a total of 162 reward cases have been recorded.
This reward program provides monetary rewards to citizens who have made significant contributions to preventing crime through 112 emergency calls or to protecting the lives, bodies, or property of others in urgent situations such as various incidents or accidents.
The program was established in accordance with the "Act on the Operation and Handling of 112 Reports," which has been in effect since July last year. Not only the Incheon Police Agency but all city and provincial police agencies nationwide are implementing it. The decision on whether to grant a reward (up to 1 million won) is made by the compensation review committee of each police station.
The Incheon Police Agency secured a related budget of approximately 38 million won for this year following the implementation of the program and has fully utilized it to execute rewards for 162 cases.
Representative cases include awarding a 300,000 won reward to a citizen who reported a voice phishing crime involving about 9 million won. Another citizen received a 200,000 won reward for reporting and assisting in the apprehension of a thief who was breaking into vehicles late at night.
The Incheon Police Agency plans to continue operating the reward program next year and is also reviewing operational and evaluation measures to enhance the effectiveness of the system.
