Pukyong National University Department of Liberal Arts Conducts Overseas Exploration Program in Shanghai, China
“Global Field Experience Supporting Major Exploration and Career Design”
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) has operated an overseas exploration program to help students in the Department of Liberal Arts, who entered without a declared major, explore their career paths.
The university announced on November 6 that it selected 30 first-year students from the Department of Liberal Arts and conducted the "Department of Liberal Arts Frontier Talent Overseas Exploration Program" in Shanghai, China, from November 3 to 6.
This program, introduced for the first time with support from the RISE project group, is an international career design program designed to help students in the Department of Liberal Arts explore major global maritime cities and clarify their choice of major and career direction.
The program focused on providing hands-on experience of the global trends in the marine industry and the role of maritime hub cities, in connection with the urban characteristics of Busan.
The exploration group visited Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai Jinhua Heavy Industry, and the Aquatech China exhibition, where they learned on-site about various fields such as smart marine industries, water resource technologies, and eco-friendly maritime city policies.
Kim Doeun, a first-year participant, said, "By visiting universities and companies in overseas maritime cities, I was able to experience firsthand the international trends in smart ports and the tourism industry. It was a great help in broadly exploring my interests in majors and career paths."
With the decision on majors for the Department of Liberal Arts students scheduled for next year, Pukyong National University plans to implement a second program in January 2026, which will include an exploration trip to Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
