400 Liters of Chemical Leak at Eumseong Plastic Manufacturing Plant
At around 9:56 a.m. on October 26, 2025, a chemical leak occurred at a plastic manufacturing plant in Daeso-myeon, Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province.
The leaked substance was identified as VAM (Vinyl Acetate Monomer), a highly flammable Class 4 hazardous material, with approximately 400 liters released.
The fire authorities, who received a report of a strong chemical odor, are currently implementing safety measures and controlling access to the site.
As it was the weekend, there was no one inside the factory, so no casualties were reported. However, some employees from nearby factories complained of dizziness and were transported to the hospital.
On October 24, 2025, at this same plant, an incident occurred where smoke was detected coming from a drum containing cumene hydroperoxide (CHP), a substance with explosion risk, prompting an evacuation of employees.
