Pyeongchang County Opens 'World Union of Olympic Cities General Assembly'... Mayors from 38 Olympic Cities Attend
The 2025 World Union of Olympic Cities General Assembly opened in Pyeongchang on October 22.
This assembly brings together mayors from 38 Olympic cities across 25 countries and more than 200 participants from 55 related organizations. Attendees will tour the Pyeongchang Olympic legacy projects and facility operations, and discuss the future of Olympic heritage.
The first event of the assembly takes place at Woljeongsa Temple on Odaesan Mountain, a representative cultural heritage site of Pyeongchang and a venue of Olympic legacy. Woljeongsa Temple previously hosted the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Organizing Committee dinner and the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Organizing Committee welcome banquet.
At this thousand-year-old temple, where autumn leaves are at their peak, a procession of traditional Korean lanterns welcomes the delegations. A Buddhist dance performance and a ritual of circling the pagoda are presented, offering guests from around the world a glimpse of Korean tradition and hospitality.
